Art Breeze: Mixed Media Workshop in Taos

I'm excited to get rolling with the art workshops I've been wanting to teach for some time. My belief is that ANYONE can and should tap into their creative depths. If you don't realize this already, the act of creating not only brings inspiration, challenge, and gratification to the moment, but fosters growth toward more inspiration and resourcefulness in all things.  All right, enough of the pep rally talk. What follows is the brochure and additional information for our workshop in Taos. If you are unable to join us for this one, there will be more. Check back for future events.

SUPPLIES

You may have many of these already. Buy as little as possible. Creativity is stretched more when you "hunt and gather." We can share as well. You don't need everything: a panel or book, journal, sculpture "chunks," "ephemera" (found objects and art supplies).  Here's where variety and scavenging come in. Anything goes (almost). Think of things only in terms of shape, texture, scale.

Basics:

  • Paint clothes

  • Canvas board, 1/4" wood panel, old book, or notebook (you probably want to stay under 11 x 14 for your 2-0 project)

  • Collage papers such as: scrap wallpaper, gift wrap, doilies, book pages, decorated paper napkins, brown bags, etc.

  • Images: photocopies of photos

  • Glues: craft, hot, and/or E-6000

  • Scissors or craft knife

  • Misc.: plastic water glass, rags/paper towels, painter's tape, sandpaper, plastic plate to mix paint

  • Matte medium or Modge Podge

Sculpture Supplies:

  • Wood scraps; found and/or purchased (not bigger than fist or forearm so your piece won't get too large)

  • Toy or machine parts

  • Curious plastic pieces

  • Found objects ("ephemera"): keys, shells, marbles, bottle caps, broken jewelry, doll parts, game pieces, cardboard or plastic packing pieces

  • Pieces of wire

  • Dried pieces of "nature"

  • Metal scraps (small)

Paints: (water-based)

  • Gesso (small)

  • Assorted brushes

  • Acrylics

  • Watercolor

  • Gouache

  • Water crayons

  • Pencils (specialty such as metallic, textured, etc.)

Optional: markers, paint pens, gel medium

Additional:

  • Spackle (small)

  • Clays: polymer or air-dry

Optional: stamps or stencils
